Set 10 years later than the first novel and with the introduction of some new characters, Jackie's very descriptive writing style transports you instantly to this Greek paradise. My favourite book so far this year (2023). I’m a prolific reader but don’t have time to waste these days reading any book that’s not going to be time thoroughly well spent. It’s all too easy to pick big authors whose work I know and trust or well publicised books. I was recommended this by a friend, so when I bought a copy I really hoped it would be good but as it’s the author’s first book there was no knowing. But oh my, I am so so pleased I bought this. It’s definitely an ‘unputdownable’ book and reading it was very much time well spent. It’s beautifully written with great characters & storyline and so so much more than just a ‘love story’. Thank goodness there’s the second instalment on its way, I can’t wait.

Firstly this book comes with a really important warning: you WILL want to book a holiday as soon as you start reading it. Watson describes the scenery around Lefkada with such passion that you can genuinely feel each vista leap vibrantly from the page … Each sub-narrative is engaging and entertaining in equal measure and on several occasions I ended up late for other commitments because I didn’t want to leave the cosy world of Apokeri Bay … This is full on, proper escapism at its very best – and even better, there are 2 more books in the trilogy still to come. I can’t wait.

Awesome debut novel. The descriptive style used throughout made you feel as if you were right there with Anna in Apokeri Bay. Such a good book I would happily read it straight away again just to stay in Apokeri. Can't believe this was a debut novel. Roll on the next instalment. Definitely an author to follow and read anything she publishes as this book shows she is a great storyteller.

A page turner. Having just finished Apokeri Bay by debut novelist Jackie Watson I would encourage everyone to read it, this is not my normal genre but I thoroughly enjoyed the read and was so glad I downloaded the novel. Jackie has been so descriptive in her novel, I could almost smell the flowers, the sea, and the food. Loved everything about the story and the characters journeys. It is a real page turner that makes you smile; makes you cry and makes you reflect. The novelists knowledge of the Islands and the history is amazing, I felt I learned so about these wonderful Islands than I could ever have imagined. The history of the Islands is fascinating and the way Jackie describes them is breathtaking. You truly feel by the end you know all the characters, their history and I am very keen to know what happens next, so very much looking forward to the second novel in the trilogy. I have recommended it to so many family and friends.

I really enjoyed this book. Impetuous and strong-willed heroine, making difficult life choices. Set in Greece, so would make great holiday - or escapist - reading. I didn't know what to expect from "women's contemporary fiction" and was pleasantly surprised. This a debut novel full of pace and character, not just your usual romance. Highly recommended.
